About

European Gamelan Society

Connecting people through Indonesian performing arts across Europe and beyond.

Our Mission

The European Gamelan Society is a non-profit association dedicated to promoting the diversity of Indonesian performing arts and cultural practices in Switzerland and across Europe.

We facilitate the study, practice, and transmission of Indonesian performing arts, while creating opportunities for intercultural dialogue and artistic innovation.

What We Do

Build networks. Facilitate exchange.

01

Connect

We bring together Gamelan ensembles, artists, researchers, educators, and cultural institutions across Europe and beyond, creating opportunities for knowledge exchange, collaboration and joint initiatives. We document, preserve, and share resources related to Indonesian performing arts and the activities of our network.

02

Support

We facilitate the study and practice of Indonesian music, dance, theatre, and other performing arts through workshops, seminars, and training programmes. We provide artistic, organisational and financial support for collective practice, with a particular focus on Gamelan ensembles.

03

Collaborate

We organise and support performances, festivals, screenings, symposia, and other public events that bring Indonesian performing arts to wider audiences. We facilitate artistic residencies, mobility projects, and international collaborations between artists and cultural practitioners from Europe, Indonesia, and beyond.
